Why a Mobile Farmers Market?

The answer is simple for Common Ground Producers and Growers Mobile Farmers Market and Mobile Food Hub. We have a heart to see people have access to healthy foods. In the 21st-century everything about our life has changed.

For decades and generations, people have viewed farming as hundreds of acres, combines, and tractors. Now there is a new form of farming called Urban Agriculture.

Urban Agriculture is like everything else about the 21st century. It just looks different. Urban Agriculture is now being done on rooftops, in backyards, and on abandoned lots right in the heart of the concrete jungle. Urban Agriculture farmers look like the man or the woman next door to you, the person checking you out at the supermarket, or the guy who is selling you your car! Urban Agriculture looks different and it is different but the heart of farming is still the same.

No matter if you’re in the heart of the country or in the heart of the city the goal for both urban and rural farmers is the same — to feed their families and feed their community. Common Ground Producers and Growers, with its community partnerships and resources, are ready to build a better tomorrow where food is a policy issue, not a profit issue.

We practice responsible farming which takes care of the land and the food we eat and that means the community is getting the best quality of nutrition they can for their bodies.

Our Story

For seven years, the Common Ground Mobile Farmers Market has made a significant impact on providing fresh produce to the food desert and food insecurity areas in our region.

The mobile famers  market collaborates with a growing network of local producers who work together to provide fresh, locally grown food for distribution in these areas.

Each year we work closely with our partners such as CPAAA, K-State Extension, Double-Up Food Bucks, Kansas Farmer’s Union and local and state officials to ensure our customers are provided the opportunity to eat healthy, fresh produce.

Common Ground has been instrumental in helping senior citizens increase their spending power by 218 percent through the Senior Market Voucher program. During this crisis, the mobile farmers market is expanding its capacity in low-income and food desert areas to help minimize the impact of the COVID-19 virus on our most vulnerable populations.
